Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Sciatica or sciatic pain is a commonly used term to describe the throbbing pain that originates in the lower back and slowly moves into one or both legs with Everyday Roots Book. This pain can vary in intensity, and in some cases, sciatic pain is accompanied by numbness and tingling sensations in the affected area.

1- Chiropractor’s Diagnosis

Contrary to what most people believe, sciatica is a symptom, not a disorder on everyday roots book review. It is caused by sciatic nerve compression. Simply put, there are many disorders that cause sciatic pain and the chiropractor’s first step is to determine what exactly causes the pain. You may be asked to undergo a physical and neurological examination to decide the possible course of treatment. As mentioned earlier, your treatment plan will vary depending on the type and extent of the cause.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Anyone might be at risk for developing sciatica.  You have to be careful if your job requires lots of lifting or long driving hours. Sometimes sciatica can develop for no apparent reason. If you are experiencing lower back pain or leg pain for quite some time, visit your chiropractor because it might be sciatica.

2- The Goal of Chiropractic Care

The goal of chiropractic care is to restore normal spinal movement so that you may perform your routine activities with ease. Depending on the underlying cause of the pain, a chiropractic treatment may include spinal manipulation and other treatment methods such as cold/heat therapy, ultrasound and rehabilitative exercises.

Like other conditions, spinal adjustments form the core of sciatica treatment. Your chiropractor may use slight force to restore the alignment of spinal joints and nerves. These manual adjustments should not be painful, but if you do experience discomfort, inform your chiropractor immediately. This can reduce nerve irritability which is responsible for causing muscle spasm, pain, inflammation and other symptoms related to sciatica.

3- Ways to Improve Spinal Health

While it’s not really easy to prevent sciatica, you can use the following methods to strengthen your back and improve your spinal health.

  1. Maintain a healthy diet
  2. Exercise to maintain ideal body weight
  3. Pay strict attention to posture
  4. Don’t sit for long hours
  5. Quit smoking and alcohol
  6. Use good body mechanics if you need to lift weight

Your chiropractor will be able to fully assess your condition and determine other changes that are required. Remember, sciatica is easy to treat if you seek professional help even if it is a long-standing problem.
